1 Player A is the first of three choices of music during the 1 Player mode of both the Game Boy and NES versions of Tetris 2. It is the second song heard by the player in the game, as the menu has the song selected by default.
The song was written by Mitsuhiko Takano and/or Miyuki Uemura in 6502 assembly on a computer. The composers should be contacted for an official title.
Composition
The song is in the key of B♭ major. The first square wave serves as the lead melody, while the second square wave serves as a backing melody. The Verse of the song follows this chord progression: B♭ F B♭ F/B♭. The second square wave plays quietly in sixteenth notes scaling down and up the chord. The drums are very simple and play in sixteenth notes with the following notation; hi-hat (3x), snare (2x) hi-hat (3x). At about 0:17, the song goes into the Chorus, where the second square wave now harmonizes with the first. The chord progression here is C, F, D, G, Cm, F, B♭. The chord progression repeats, but the Cm and F are doubled in length without the B♭. At about 0:34, the Outro plays. The square waves still harmonize with each other, but change instruments. The chords here are: B♭/F E♭ F. The chords repeat, but this time, there is a C/E placed between the E♭ and F chords. The song then ends with the square wave playing a middle F and a higher one right after, making for a similar sound to the Game Boy BIOS. The song then loops from the beginning.
