The Last Starfighter is a NES game loosely based on the movie of the same name. The game is a recycled version of Uridium (C64) which is a recycled version of Shadow Spotter (2600). The game is way too difficult to play, so most players can't complete even the first level. There are 15 levels in the game. The player must kill a certain amount of enemies and then land their ship. Then they must blow up the starport.

There is only one song in the entire game and it plays throughout the entire game. Thankfully, the song is from the movie, but it's a horrible arrangement. While the game lacks credits, Nick Eastridge was the only sound programmer at Mindscape at the time, so the music is attributed to him. Plus, other Mindscape staff have verified that he composed Paperboy (NES) which uses the same sound driver. The music was written as a MIDI file and then converted to the NES by Nick, but it is unknown what program he used to make the music.

The game uses a song from the movie soundtrack, The Hero's March. Rich Shemaria had to transcribe the song by ear, before sending sheet music of his arrangement to Nick Eastridge, who coded it into the game by hand. To help Nick in implementing the music into his sound driver, Rich wrote the pitch equates for Nick's driver under the notation in the sheet music.
