Space 1889 is a role-playing game based on the pen-and-paper RPG of the same title which puts you on a space-faring adventure as described by the science-fiction authors of the Victorian era. You explore some of the more exotic places of Earth like the pyramids of Egypt and the lost city of Atlantis, while also zooming about the solar system using rather quaint technology. You explore the environment from a top-down perspective and use commands like "take," "fight," and "query." Conversations feature portraits, and there are a fair amount of cut-scenes with larger graphics.

The soundtrack is composed by Derek Schofield and is pretty short, featuring only three songs. Those tracks starting with a 1 are the AdLib recording, those with a 3 are the PC Speaker recording. It is assumed that a Sound Master recording is possible, which will start with a 2 when it's recorded.

The music, instrument, and driver files are all installed into the root folder. The recording was made using DOSBox v0.75.
There appears to only be a single AdLib music file which had to be downgraded through software to work with the lower-fidelity output.

Sound |
AdLib music must be turned on by first running AdLib.bat which loads the official AdLib sound driver into the correct address, otherwise music will play through the PC Speaker. According to the game's setup, sound effects can be played on a Sound Master. It is unknown if music is also played through the Sound Master, as DOSBox doesn't yet emulate the Sound Master.
