Oni in Chinese (奥妮 - Aoni) in Russian (Они) in Japanese (鬼), is a game inspired by the Manga/Anime Ghost in the Shell, Developed by Bungie West and Rockstar Canada and Distributed by Gathering of Developers and Rockstar Games for Mac, Windows 32 and Sony PlayStation 2 in 2001. Its first port was Microsoft Windows being the one that laid the foundations for Mac and PS2.
The game is located in the year 2032, the world has become a dystopia, an Earth so polluted that little by little it becomes Uninhabitable, and with an economic crisis a solution is sought, they unite in a single entity, the World Organization of the government coalition. Everything is out of control, making the population realize the nature reserves are the ones that are dangerously toxic, and use the Technological Crime Task Force, their secret police, to spy on the citizens and suppress the opposition.
Our role will be agent Konoko, code name (Mai Hasegawa, full name). Start the job game for the police. Soon, she learns that her employers have kept her past a secret. She turns against them, as she embarks on a quest of self discovery. The player learns more about her family's origins as she battles the TCTF and their biggest enemy, the equally monolithic criminal organization called the "Syndicate".
At the climax of the game, Konoko discovers a "Syndicate" plan to bring the Atmosphere Conversion Centers, the air treatment plants necessary to keep the majority of the world's population alive, into a catastrophic malfunction. She is partially successful in thwarting the plot, saving a part of humanity.

Oni features a mixture of upbeat techno music by Power of Seven (consisting of Paul Sebastien and contractor Brian Salter), as well as more cinematic pieces by TotalAudio (Martin O'Donnell and Michael Salvatori). Despite Salter composing roughly half of the soundtrack, he is not credited in-game nor on the soundtrack release, and was not aware that his tracks were used; this led to him remixing them for his album Missing Scenes.
