Frogger is an action game of dexterity. You control a series of frogs who must make their way across a five lane super-highway and then through a rushing river, into their homes on the other side of the screen. The frogs will be squashed by the tires of passing cars and trucks, but will also be lost in the rapid current of the river, so it is up to you to guide them safely across. As you finish each level, the game becomes progressively more difficult increasing the number and speed of the cars on the road, and complicating the river by speeding up the logs, making the turtles disappear faster, and adding alligators.
The Atari 2600 release is a rather faithful port of the arcade game, though the graphics and sound are noticeably inferior.

Music
Although the arcade version of Frogger has several different tunes, only one of them is carried over to the Atari 2600. The title music, and a slightly altered version played at the beginning of each level, is a Japanese nursery rhyme called Inu no Omawarisan (The Policeman's Dog).
