Devil World - FC - Japan.jpg
Platform: Famicom
Year: 1984
Developer: Nintendo R&D1

Devil World is very reminiscent of Pac-Man, only with crosses, bibles, and devils. It has some interesting qualities to it, like a playing field that is always in motion, making it possible for you to get squashed in the walls and you can also breath fire to kill the monsters. Really, when you get down to it though, most people would just rather play Pac-Man.

Devil World functions like an early arcade game, but it was designed specifically for the Famicom, and was never released in the arcade.

This game has the honor of being the only game created by Shigeru Miyamoto (the same guy that created Mario and Zelda) that was never released in the US. This is due to Nintendo of America's censorship of anything overtly religious, and this game is nothing but. It probably wouldn't have been too difficult to adjust the graphics and give it a secular theme, but the game probably wasn't expected to sell well enough to even bother.

Music

The music to Devil World is very basic, like most of the 1984 games released by Nintendo. There are only a few short fanfares to listen to.

Much later, in 2004 the Famicom 20th Anniversary Original Sound Tracks Vol. 1 album was released which contained music from a great deal of Nintendo's early game, Devil World included. The credits of the album list Akito Nakatsuka and Koji Kondo as the composers.

The game's soundtrack was later used in the Wonder Rabbit game for the Dreamgear 75-in-1.

Ripping NES music is a very arduous process that is beyond the scope of this site.
