Extended Module (XM) is based off the original module format, but with greater functionality like multi-sampling-capable instruments and basic sample compression. The format debuted with Triton's Fasttracker II. Extended Module files have an *.xm extension; ModPlug software coined the *.xmz extension for compressed XM files.
