Toshiyuki Ueno is a Japanese programmer, composer and sound designer. He started off working for the editorial department at ASCII. He was a writer for the popular Japanese game magazine Famitsu. After playing the Namco game Libble Rabble, Ueno became fascinated with the game industry, and learned to program. He programmed both the PC-6001 and MSX versions of Hokkaidou Rensa Satsujin: Okhotsk ni Kiyu, and composed the Famicom version, which is one of his best known works regarding his music. He is also known for Itadaki Street and Mario's Picross.

Today, Ueno doesn't write much music anymore, and is a writer. He is known for writing strategy guides for Nintendo.

In the game "Kero Kero Keroppi no Daibouken", there are no staff credits, but his and Fukashi Ohmorita's name is in the ROM. According to Toshiyuki, this was because there was not enough space for a complete staff roll.

Audio Development

NES

Ueno co-authored a sound driver with Fukashi Ohmorita, and the music was written in Music Macro Language. However, in Hokkaidou Rensa Satsujin, he used a sound driver by Mitsunori Ogihara and Takuya Watanabe.

SNES

Ueno used Nintendo's modified version of DBOOT V110 by Opus.

GB

Ueno programmed a sound driver for the Game Boy.

The ROM for the unreleased Pokémon Picross has a hidden sound driver credit:
