Thexder is an action game similar to that of Turrican. You control a mech warrior who can transform into a flying ship. Aliens have dug near the center of the earth and it's your job to stop them before they destroy the earth. You go firing heatseeking missiles through 16 levels. Using too many laser shots will take a little health off your energy bar. You can also use some of your energy for a powerful shield, but then you risk dying after the shield wears off. Also, the only way to get health in the game is to kill enemies that drop energy or to finish a level. The Nintendo version was only released in Japan. The NES version was made by only two people; Moto Kanayama and Shoji Satoh.

Music

There's only one song in the game, which can be expected for such an early Famicom title. Some of the other computer versions used Moonlight Sonata, but this game only uses the one in-game tune from the computer versions. It is unknown who did the audio conversion since the game doesn't give credit to any audio personnel, but some of the other versions credit Hibiki Godai for the music, and since he's credited in the Famicom version, the music has been attributed to him.
