Theme of War Machine
Composer Takayuki Iwai, Yuko Takehara, Masato Kouda
Released 1998-01-23
Title Origin Official

Theme of War Machine plays whenever War Machine is involved in a match in Marvel vs. Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes (ARC), no matter what side he's on. It was originally composed for that game by Yuko Takehara and/or Masato Kouda - it is currently not known which of the two did this particular track. While Takayuki Iwai was not directly involved in Marvel vs. Capcom's development, the song quotes "Iron Man Stage" from Marvel Super Heroes (ARC) and that game's official soundtrack confirms he composed that tune. (Since War Machine is essentially a stand-in for Iron Man in-game, this is only fitting.)

The game was released on January 23rd, 1998, marking the first time the general public would have the opportunity to hear the song.

Title

The song's name comes from the official album Marvel vs. Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes Original Soundtrack.

Composition

The overall tone of "Theme of War Machine" is uplifting and driven. After a brief, sweeping introduction that transitions into a more grounded set of melodies (including one lifted straight from the piano-like baseline of "Iron Man Stage"), the main melody plays on a somewhat distorted-sounding instrument. After some time, the song returns to the "Iron Man Stage"-derived section one more time before looping.

The original version of the song was composed for the CPS-2's QSound audio hardware. It was also reused (without any clear differences) in the game's home console ports: Marvel vs. Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes (SAT) and Marvel vs. Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes (PS1).

While War Machine does not appear in Marvel vs. Capcom 3, Iron Man's theme is a remix of "Theme of War Machine." Since Hideyuki Fukasawa is the sole person credited as a composer, it is likely that he created this new version.

This version primarily hews close to the techno genre with orchestral and rock elements blended in. At times, its sound seems sparser than the original. Notable changes include the main melody after the intro being played with a distorted voice-like instrument and an entirely new section right before the loop consisting of several held notes backed by an electric guitar.

This version does not differ in the PS3 version and is reused verbatim in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 (X360) (as well as its various ports).
