- This page is for the Sega Saturn version. For other games in the series, see Tempest.
Tempest 2000 is the antepenultimate port of the Atari Jaguar version of the game, licensed by Atari, developed by High Voltage Software and published by Interplay in America and Europe, Acclaim in France, Italy, Malta, Romania, Roadshow Interactive in Oceania in 1996 for Sega's home hardware, the Sega Saturn.
The Saturn version, programmed by High Voltage Software, is very close to the original Jaguar version, except for the removal of the third type of bonus level. It uses most of the audio tracks from the Tempest 2000 soundtrack CD for the game. The voice samples were redone.
This port is based on the first version of Atari Jaguar, many graphical and technical changes were made in this version, it was made to work by software/hardware, better graphics were made with many changes in the gameplay and resolution of things.
Although it was originally from Jaguar it did very well in sales in all systems although the Saturn version is more faithful to the one seen in Jaguar, it is almost a copy and paste from console to console.
This led to the release of a Microsoft Windows version which was based on this version, only technical improvements were made for computers.
This version was very well received by the public which earned a good reputation although not the system where it had been released which had its sales assured but it seems that the second version more valued by the press.
A fact was that it was intended to be released in Japan and Brazil but at the last moment its official release was discarded for strange reasons due to Interplay.

Alastair Lindsay,
Kevin Saville and
Ian Howe of
Imagitec Design, Inc. composed the music and sounds for all versions. They composed the music for the original Jaguar version (also known as Dream Weavers), who also created the music for Jeff Minter's Defender 2000 on Atari Jaguar, which would be the basis for
Sega Saturn.
Although the non-Jaguar versions of the game played music on CD, the music was created in the Commodore Amiga MOD file format. The music soundtrack was also available directly from Atari at the time of the CD release.
It was also included with the Atari Jaguar CD to demonstrate the music playback capabilities of the system. It would become the audio basis for all conversions of the game, including the Windows 32, PlayStation and Saturn versions.
Due to space limitations, several tracks were not included in the Jaguar version.
