Tatsuyuki Maeda is a Japanese musician and sound producer with Wave Master. He is best known for his numerous works at Sega, composing the music for Dragon Force, Skies of Arcadia, and Sonic 3D Blast. Alongside Masaru Setsumaru, he created most of the sound effects utilized in various Sega games. He was also the sound director for two handheld gaming systems: the Pico and the Game Boy Advance.

Nowadays, he takes an even more background role in the sound department, only occasionally composing music for Sega games.

Background

Maeda became first interested in music when he was five. He graduated from a professional school with an electric organ course, and wrote his first song at the age of 18. Early on, Maeda was influenced by his father's record collection.[1]

He joined Sega of Japan in 1992, first working on the unreleased title Devi & Pii with the assistance of a fellow member at the time, Chikako Kamatani. Maeda's first team collaboration would be Golden Axe III. During that time, early in his career, Maeda occasionally had issues grasping the sound driver but received kind and careful guidance. Furthermore, his team was guided on how to make music on the Sega Genesis sound beautiful, and to think of the system as a musical instrument. Fellow member Naofumi Hataya would continuously praise Maeda highly for their co-composition, "Wilderness", calling it very lively and dynamic.[2][3]
