Takeaki Kinoko Kunimoto History Vol.5: Katoken is a video game soundtrack CD released by Gyafun Records in 2020. The album is the fifth in the Takeaki Kinoko Kunimoto History series. It features sixty songs, all of which are from four games for the TurboGrafx-16 composed by Takeaki Kunimoto. Two of these games were released in North America (J.J. & Jeff, Victory Run), and the other two exclusive to Japan (YuuYuu Jinsei, Break In).
The CD contains several arrangements of the songs, performed by several bands. However, there are no recordings of the music directly from the game. Instead, the songs are recorded from the original hardware Kunimoto wrote the music on, and is most likely exactly how it sounded when it was given to the sound programmers to implement into the games. However, unfortunately, track 25 (Staff Roll theme from J.J. & Jeff) abruptly ends after one minute and twelve seconds. It is thought the original media, possibly a tape, either lost the rest of the data or was corrupted. Interestingly, for the first time, the song is credited to an unknown composer with the pseudonym Tamao.
Track 1 is all the songs from J.J. & Jeff performed by a live band on numerous keyboards which sample the original instruments.
