Star Wars is a Family Computer video game created by Namco and released in 1987. Although it is primarily based on the first Star Wars film, some levels are based on the later two films. It is one of two games in the Star Wars franchise that were released exclusively in Japan, the other being Star Wars: Attack on the Death Star. The game is a side-scrolling platform game where the player controls Luke Skywalker as he travels to join the Rebellion against the Empire.
The game was highly criticized upon release. Luke can only take one hit, and enemies can hit you despite not even touching Luke, as the invisible hitbox Luke has seems to expand a little past the graphic. If that's not enough, it seems the center of Luke's lightsaber has to touch the enemy in order to damage them, making for a highly unfair disadvantage to the player. In addition, the game is brutally difficult, with a series of challenging platforming, slippery controls, as well as there being no continues. There are also a few segments in the game that require some puzzle-solving in order to progress.

Music
Hiroyuki Kawada arranged John Williams' score and themes from the films by arranging it in ear, and transcribed the music into Music Macro Language. The compositions were converted into Namco's NES driver.
