Sonic the Hedgeghog in Japanese (ソ ニ ッ ク・ザ・・ヘ ッ ジ ホ ッ グ - Sonikku za hejjihoggu), is an official port-demake for consoles Sega Master System and Game Gear, officially licensed by Sega, developed by Ancient Co. and published by Sega in America (Tec Toy in Brazil), Europe and Japan in 1991 for the system 8-bit Sega, Game Gear.
Many technical sacrifices were made as it changes levels and music, many aspects were changed to suit Sega Game Gear and his small screen compared to his older sister by Master System.
They changed the mechanics, music, sprites to low quality, less levels, a low frame rate, their low resolution that would later be inherited to Sonic the Hedgeghog 2 (GG) and other games of the saga that would also reach Master System.
This version premiered new engine adapted to 8-bit systems, which did not have enough power so it was a very good interpretation for these consoles but the Game Gear has good merit for being the most impossible port at the same time as possible in the hardware.
It got good reception from the press and the video player of both consoles, but the portatil led to the release of the second title of the saga in 8-bits.

The music of Sonic the Hedgehog on the Game Gear is the same as the version of Master System as they share almost the same hardware, their adapter and arranger was Masato Nakamura.
Its original creator was Yuzo Koshiro which was working on the version of Master System' which used all the code between the two 8-bit systems.
The music was limited to 14 tracks which are almost the same as those seen in Genesis, the music was taken depending on the level and number of acts where the player could listen to the melodies adapted to the Game Gear hardware.
Recording
The recordings were made using Kega Fusion 2.02 and Cheat Engine to dump, VLC media player and foobar2000 to add Metadata, as additional tool Make List was used to encode the recordings in list mode.
