Sanrio Carnival 2 is a puzzle game developed by Mario Co., Ltd. and published by Character Soft. It is the sequel to the game Sanrio Carnival (FC).
As the title suggests, the game features a few of the popular Sanrio characters Taabo, Hangyodon, Pokopon, Keroppi, and Kitty. There are a few modes of play;
Stage (すてーじ): This is the main theme of the game. There are five stages, each containing two segments, both themed around one of the aforementioned characters. In the first segment, you play the Candy Puzzle Game, in which you must arrange rows of the same-colored candy in 3 or more in a row to clear them. Each time you do, a petal will be added to the respective-colored flower. Fill all the petals on each flower to win. If you try to clear candies for flowers that are already completed, they will turn into black candy, and the only to clear the black candy is to arrange 10 of them in a row. The A button makes the hit candy go two spaces to the right, while the B button makes it go one space. The game is over if either the time limit expires or the player runs out of room on the playing field.
After clearing a Candy Puzzle Game stage, you play the Puzzle Panel Game, which is basically a sliding puzzle of the respective Sanrio character for that stage. You have a time limit that gradually diminishes, and clearing the stage on time will add a petal to each flower on the next Candy Puzzle Game stage. However, this section of the stage is not required to progress in the game.
Battle (たいせん): The player goes up against the computer player (as Keroppi) in which the Candy Puzzle Game is played. Here, both players play on the same field, and must clear candies on their respective side to make petals on their flowers. There are also Bomb Candies, which explode after a set time. Exploding in the center does nothing, but exploding on a player's side will cause them to freeze temporarily. The best out of three games wins.
Challenge (ちょうせん): This is the same thing as the single-player Candy Puzzle Game, but plays more like a score attack mode. There is also no time limit.
The game also features a two-player mode, which is the same as the Battle mode.
Sanrio Carnival 2 also received a release on the Game Boy.

Music
The game features music by Hirokazu Tanaka, who had also previously worked on Hello Kitty World (FC), which was by the same group of companies that made this game. There is only one theme for the Candy Puzzle Game and another for the Panel Puzzle Game. Both have sped-up variants when the timer is low. Other than that, there's not too much to say about the soundtrack.
To write the music, Tanaka wrote in assembly macros in his sound engine.

The "Stage" mode is the main part of the game. However, clearing all the stages only rewards the player with a one-screen ending with no credits. The manual also does not have credits, and only lists the companies involved with the game.
There are several factors that prove Tanaka composed the music;
- Tanaka is credited in Hello Kitty World (FC), which was by the same companies that made this game.
- The music strongly resembles Tanaka's music style, and the game uses his sound engine. In particular, the Game Over and Taisen ~ Win!! songs start with a fanfare and then go to a loop, which Tanaka also did in Hello Kitty World and Dr. Mario (NES).
Game Rip
Ripping NES music is a very arduous process that is beyond the scope of this site. The recording was made in NSFPlay Synthesia Mod.
Audio Devices
The game uses the 2A03 of the NES, and uses Hirokazu Tanaka's sound driver.
