Sam Powell is an American sound designer and composer. He first started working on music for games in the 80's when he worked for Leland Corporation. He composed a great deal of soundtracks for their arcade games. In 1992, he left Leland and started working for Blue Sky Software. He left Blue Sky Software in 1996, the same year Leland Corporation closed their doors. At the beginning of 2000, Sam worked for Sony Online Entertainment as a senior sound designer and composer and left there a year later. Sam then founded Play It Again Studios, in which he still composes music and sound for games today as a freelancer.
Music Composition
ARC
Sam used Master Tracks for the Macintosh for his arcade music. His music was then converted to a sound driver by Michelle Simon.
Genesis
Sam used GEMS.
NES
Sam did not work on the NES, but Leland's arcade games were converted by Rare, and his music arranged by their primary composer, David Wise. The games arranged were John Elway's Quarterback, Danny Sullivan's Indy Heat, and Ivan "Ironman" Stewart's Super Off Road.
SNES
Sam created MIDI files that were converted to Sculptured Software's sound engine.
