- This is for the game released in Europe and North America. For the Japanese Famicom version, see Rampart (FC).
Rampart is an arcade game, released in 1990 by Atari Games, that combines the shoot 'em up and puzzle genres. It was first made available as an arcade game but was subsequently offered for a number of home gaming platforms. The game is considered a precursor to the tower defense genre.
The NES version is only done by three developers at Bitmasters, which were programming by Franz Lanzinger, graphics by David O'Riva and music by Alex Rudis.
The version was announced at the Summer CES 1991 by Tengen, who is infamous for releasing NES games without Nintendo's approval, but after Tengen told them to stop making NES games after R.B.I. Baseball 3, Tengen sold off the NES rights of Rampart and Cyberball to Jaleco, which ended up going to be a licensed release.

Music
For 1992, Alex Rudis of Atari Lynx fame did a good job. They converted Don Diekneite and Brad Fuller's original music and decided to be implemented into the NES hardware. There are 10 songs in the game. The music was implemented into David O'Riva's sound driver.
