- This page is for the Sega Saturn version. For other games in the series, see Quake.
Quake is the first port of the first game of the series, being a spiritual successor of Doom, licensed by GT Interactive Software and Id Software, developed by Lobotomy Software and Sega, published by Sega (America, Europe and Oceania) and Tec Toy in Brazil in 1997 for the Sega Saturn.
This port is based on DOS and Windows 32, many graphical and technical changes were made in this version, the original soundtrack was kept in this version, many changes were made in the graphics to ones more configured to the console, the controls were simplified without compatibility to the 3D Controler Pad.
The complexity of the source code of Quake was a technical challenge to the complexity of the multiprocessor architecture, it made this port a titanic elaboration since it was an important game and it was in 3D (meaning it would be a development similar to working on the Atari Jaguar on CD.
This port was originally being developed on PlayStation but it was cancelled almost at the end of the beta, in the case of Saturn it didn't happen and it was released but the Nintendo 64 was also released but it was developed by Midway.
Its reception was very positive, it got very good acceptance from the players but it would be the last time they would see a Quake on Saturn, this would happen in many games which only released their sequels on PlayStation (although it was only Quake II (PS1)), it would see Quake III: Arena (DC) until the arrival of the Sega Dreamcast.
This port had many technical deficiencies such as non-constant low FPS, low quality textures and simplified mechanics.

Trent Reznor creator of the original soundtrack but no development if not only aquirio the credits, this very complex great port with the change to WAV format since it took advantage of the whole CD until reaching 500 MB all game and mostly it was only characteristic music of Reznor.
The Official Soundtrack, which was based on the CD version of the original game, would later be released as only 10 tracks.
The same melodic characteristics of moving to heavy metal rock Doom (series), was used music inherited from the version Doom (PS1) which characterized Quake as a cult game on consoles and on PC.
This port did not receive many changes in the music only made improvements in the audio and exported to WAV what was music of the highest quality throughout the explendor.
Sonic Mayhem was the music arranger for the version of Sega Saturn, it was from the Sega development team.
