Pro Sport Hockey is a hockey simulation game developed by TOSE and published by Jaleco. The game offers two main modes; Practice and Season. In the practice mode, the player can practice each part of a hockey game; exhibition, fighting (Japanese version only), and shootout. The Season mode has two modes; Regular Season and Super Cup. Regular Season is a 82-game season that must be won before taking on the Super Cup. There are twenty-four teams to choose from.
The Japanese version of the game was released first, and when the game was localized to North America, it had received a major overhaul. Some of these things include a fighting mode that was removed, a mostly new soundtrack, no-in-game music, and a slightly worse ending.
The game received mixed-to-negative reviews from critics at the time of its release. Its highest rating was by French magazine Super Power, who gave the game a 63, but still criticized the game for its lack of capturing the physics properly. They also criticized the game for not having any in-game music, and the sound effects were passable, but nothing special. German magazine Mega Fun rated it 25 and said the game is better left in the penalty box.

Music
Pro Sport Hockey was composed by Takeshi Ichida, who had scored numerous games for TOSE at the time. The interesting thing is that there are numerous differences between the music heard in the Japanese and North American version. Title Screen, Main Menu, Victory! and Congratulations! are all shared between the two versions. Tracks 9 to 13 are exclusively heard in the Japanese version. The Japanese version has in-game music; a different theme for each of the three periods. The North American version has no in-game music, and instead replaces it with a few jingles, which in turn are absent from the Japanese version. The Shootout mode of the Japanese version also includes its own theme.
Most of the songs make use of the famous Korg M1 Slap Bass patch.
Takeshi wrote the music in TOSE's version of Kankichi-kun.

The game's credits are displayed after beating the Sports Cup. However, only the Japanese version has credits; the North American version has the same cutscene as the Japanese version during the ending, but the text for the credits has been cut out, leaving a big empty void. Takeshi Ichida has been identified as the person behind the alias "CMS Takeshi."
