Plok is a side-scroller platform game about the titular Plok seeking revenge against fleas to get his flag back. The game is formidable challenge and was received well by critics, but unfortunately didn't sell well due to the over-saturation of mascot platformers at the time.

Music

Plok's soundtrack is quite excellent and is the Follin brothers' more famous soundtracks. Similar the Pictionary's title screen theme, internet users have memed the boss theme for its intensity and likened it to something from the video game Hotline Miami.[1] Many songs start off with a simple tune and progressively or suddenly transform into something more complex.

Sometimes considered a rumor, Richard Kay explained in a 1995 Nintendo Magazine System issue that Miyamoto was impressed with the soundtrack:[2]

At one time NCL were considering Plok as a license. Tony Harman mentioned that when Mr. Miyamoto heard that, he couldn't believe it was coming from the Super NES. They evaluated the sound system then to see how it was doing it.

The soundtrack (albeit unconfirmed) apparently seeks inspiration from many sources:

Tim Follin per his website said his involvement with the soundtrack was pretty minimal after the game transitioned from the arcade game Flea Pit to the SNES game Plok:[3]

Geoff did all the tunes originally, then the game underwent a revision half way through, so I did some.

His website (now down) included rips for the title theme and "Akrillic", as well as one other track that wasn't archived by archive.org. His interview with Legacy Music Hour confirmed he composed "Beach" and "Akrillic".[4]

Tim explained that his music was written in assembly macros in a sound driver by Mike Webb and Stephen Ruddy. The instruments came from the Ensoniq ASR-10, as well as real guitars and basses.
