NCR Corporation is an American computer hardware and electronics company. NCR was founded in 1884 in Dayton, Ohio as a cash register manufacturer. In fact, NCR stands for National Cash Register. In 1991, they were bought by AT&T, but were made into an individual company again in 1997. In 2009, the company left Dayton and moved headquarters to Georgia. The company focuses mainly on cash registers, point of sale systems, and automated teller machines.
Despite having little to do with video games, NCR produced the NCR 8496 audio chip series, a clone of the Texas Instruments SN76496 chip. This chip was used by the Tandy Corporation in some of their home computers.
