Mortal Kombat in Japanese (モ ー タ ル コ ン バ ッ ト - Mōtarukonbatto) is another version of the arcade version based only on the Genesis, is the first CD-format adaptation to a very similar version, had been released on Sega CD, licensed by Midway Games, Ported by Probe Software and published by Arena Entertainment in America, Europe and Oceania, Acclaim in Japan, Tec Toy in Brazil in 1994.
The game introduced several crucial elements to the series, including distinct five-button controls and improvements to the bloody finishing techniques used in previous Street Fighter games. The plot centers on Liu Kang's quest to defeat Shan Tsung, the evil wizard of the world, and ends with him competing in the Mortal Kombat competition.
Also developed by Probe Software, this version was very similar to the one seen in Genesis, which has resulted in many aspects almost the same, only adding the CD system of the Sega accessory.
There was no censorship even by Sega, which sparked controversy in the United States in different systems. The game moves very smoothly in this version and new touches were made to improve the quality of the sprites of the game thanks to the hardware that the Sega CD had.
However, some things were inherited from Genesis, but there was no censorship by Sega, which told us that this version is one that patched many bugs and errors of the normal cartridge version and added new aspects.

This adaptation was made by the great Dan Forden who performed new melodies in CD quality based on the nostalgic music and very important effects characteristic of the original game.
All the themes of the arcade version were included and several bonus mixes were created as remaining themes of the game as additional included as audio but it is not known if they are used in the base game.
This version contains 20 tracks in WAV format compressed in raw data, which 15 are used in the base game and the others can be read in the player mode of Sega CD.
The music if was very faithful of the original only that there was a difference that seemed to be used that of Genesis with many changes in the audio channels, are almost similar to those heard in Super Nintendo.
