Michael Pummell is an American musician who has been doing music for games for over 15 years. He started working on video game music in 1993 at Goldman Productions. He left the company in 2000 and started working for Acclaim's Cincinnati division. Three years later he quit to become a professor at the University of Cincinnati, and he quit there in 2006. Ever since 2003, Mike has been running Inter-score Interactive.

Mission Impossible (N64/PS1)

All the mixes I have posted from this title were created for the Playstation version of the same game. They do sound a little better than the N64, although the samples are the same, the polyphony is the same, etc. The original sequences were created in Digital Performer and were output in general midi for conversion to Nintendo and Sony proprietary formats. The samples were from any number of library sources and each was highly modified to accommodate the looping limitations of ADPCM. The piano instrument for example, is comprised of 4 samples to cover the entire keyboard at all velocities. Total RAM footprint for all music samples combined on the N64 was 128k. This sample set is used for all music tracks for the entire game. The Playstation version used pre-recorded streamed PCM files at 44.1K, but due to media politics, I was not allowed to make it sound significantly better than the N64 version. Polyphony on the N64 was limited to 16 notes of static allocation, unlike the dynamic polyphony found in the Playstation. No music scores were provided by Paramount for any theme renditions, all of this was interpreted by ear alone, using an old recording of the original TV show.
