Matthias Hartung is a German composer and sound programmer.

In 1985, Hartung started playing the piano. On his confirmation on 1988-04-24, he got a Commodore 64 computer with cassette drive. He further started on the flute in 1989, the organ in 1990, and briefly the guitar until he had no time. At school in late 1989, he met Sebastian Thiel. In May or summer 1990, they co-founded The Imperium Arts. In October 1992, Hartung started studying computer science in his hometown of Dresden.

His favorites have been Soul Crystal, Brubaker (C64), Revs, David's Midnight Magic, Guns N' Roses, The Sisters of Mercy, Jeff Beck, Metallica, hard rock, independent music, demo music, and lots of more except rap, hip hop, and techno.

Audio Development

Commodore 64

Hartung arranged using Demo Music Creator. According to HVSC, he used the 8580 chip on all games.

His favorites have been Thomas Mogensen, Jeroen Tel, Jens-Christian Huus, Guy Shavitt, Reyn Ouwehand, Thomas Bendt, Tomas Danko, Richard Rinn, Torben Hansen, and Giuseppe Musardo.

DOS

Hartung's only known music is in a driver signed "AMCV5 (C) TV.ES.". It is unknown what "TV.ES." means, but the format resembles Demo Music Creator V5.0 on the C64, and according to CSDb, its author Balazs Farkas released "AMC 3.0 (AdLib Music Creator, 80x50 MS-DOS, 1993)". The driver also supports MIDI (through the Sound Blaster) and dual OPL2, though Hartung's music does not use it.
