Masato Nakamura is a Japanese professional musician. He is the bass guitarist in the band DREAMS COME TRUE, and has been a member since the band's formation in 1988.

He is best known as being the composer for the first two Sonic the Hedgehog games. Fujio Minegishi, a director at Sega, had originally wanted Yuzo Kayama to compose the game's score. However, the development team suggested Nakamura instead, and so he was chosen as the composer. He worked on the soundtrack while working on the DCT album "Million Kisses".

Over the years, Masato has been involved on and off in the game industry, his most recent works being ironically Nintendo games. He currently works at Tose.

Audio Development

For the original Sonic the Hedgehog games, Nakamura wrote the music on sheet music, and then converted his music to MIDI on Notator for the Atari ST. He then sent his MIDI files to Sega, who implemented the music into their sound driver.
