Louie Louie
Composer Richard Berry Jr.
Released 1957-04-??
Title Origin Official

Louie Louie is a song composed by Richard Berry, and is most notably performed by The Kingsmen. The song became infamous for its unintelligible lyrics, and at one point was even a concern of the FBI due to misinterpretation of the lyrics.

When Epyx was developing their title California Games, most versions of the games used an arrangement of the song at the title screen. However, the Amstrad CPC, MSX, and ZX Spectrum versions don't have music, and the Sega Genesis version has new music altogether.

The song plays at the title screen.

The European version of the game does not use this song, and instead plays the Main Menu music in its place, presumably to avoid copyright issues. However, the song is still present in its ROM. The European version plays slightly faster and plays a half-step flat compared to the USA version.

Lyrics

Taken from the Kingsmen version:

[Chorus]
Louie, Louie, oh no
Said, we gotta go, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
I said, Louie, Louie, oh baby
Said we gotta go

[Verse 1]
A fine little girl, she waitin' for me
Me catch a ship across the sea
Sail that ship, ah, all alone
Me never think how I'll make it home

[Chorus]
A-Louie, Louie, no, no, no, no
Said, we gotta go, oh no
Said, Louie Louie, oh baby
Said, we gotta go
(Fuck!)

[Verse 2]
Three nights and days, I sailed the sea
Me think of girl, oh, constantly
Oh, on that ship, I dream she there
I smell the rose, ah, in her hair

[Chorus]
A-Louie, Louie, oh no
Said, we gotta go, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
But, Louie, Louie, oh baby
Said we gotta go
Okay, let's give it to 'em, right now

[Guitar Solo]

[Verse 3]
Me see—
Me see Jamaica, the moon above
It won't be long, me see me love
Me take her in my arms again
I'll tell her I'll never leave again

[Chorus]
A-Louie, Louie, oh no
Said, we gotta go, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Said, a-Louie, Louie, oh baby
Said, we gotta go
I said, me gotta go now

[Outro]
Let's hustle on out of here
Let's go!
