Kenichi Matsubara is a Japanese composer who worked for Konami. He has become popular in the video game music world for composing the music to the game Castlevania II: Simon's Quest, as well as his work on the Gradius series. He was also a part of the Konami Kukeiha Club, and went by the monikers Ken and Taurus Matsubara. He later left Konami to work at SCEI.
His best known song is the Castlevania II track Bloody Tears. He is currently a lecturer at Human Academy Music College.
Music Development
NES
According to Kinuyo Yamashita, Matsubara had only a limited knowledge of sound programming and so his compositions were usually arranged to work with Konami's sound driver by other sound designers. It's not definitively known who arranged any of his soundtracks for the NES, though based on the game credits the job may have been done by Kouji Murata on Dracula II, and Yoshinori Sasaki on The Lone Ranger.
