Kazumi Totaka is a Japanese composer who has worked at Nintendo. Totaka attended the Kunitachi College of Music and graduated in 1990, joining Nintendo at this time. He is best known for his work on the Yoshi, Luigi's Mansion, and Animal Crossing series of games. In addition to music, Totaka has provided the voice of Yoshi, and still continues to voice the character to this day. Totaka is famous for tending to hide an easter egg in the games he worked on, namely a short, 19-note melody that's usually very hard to find, known as Totaka's Song. Totaka's recent credits no longer involve music composition, but audio direction.
For conventional music, Totaka likes to play mallet percussion. As a result, many of his compositions feature mallet percussion.

Audio Development
Game Boy
Most of Totaka's Game Boy soundtracks used a sound driver by Hirokazu Tanaka. Because some games only credit Totaka, it is likely he wrote the music into the driver himself in Z80 assembly, rather than Tanaka arranging his compositions.
Nintendo 64
Totaka most likely used a type of MIDI editor or the like, and his music was converted to sound drivers by Yasushi Ida, Hideaki Shimizu and others.
SNES
Totaka used the S.120 variant of Nintendo's in-house Kankichi-kun software.
