Jean-Michel Jarre (sometimes stylized without hyphen) is a French synthesizer composer.
Jarre was born to French Resistance member Francette Pejot and Oscar-winning composer Maurice Jarre. The latter abandoned them in 1953 or 1954. Forever estranged, both doubted they could have collaborated and denied that the father influenced the son's music. Due to the melancholy, Jean-Michel Jarre has always refused to score films. As a result, his compositions were only used in games because some developer liked them; the European video game industry was young and naive, so almost no one thought about permission. However, Jarre has stated that he adored the 8-bit arrangements of his music, that he loved the Bomb Jack game, and that one of his collaborators, whistleblower Edward Snowden, grew up with 8-bit game music. Jarre has used Notator on an Atari ST and was interviewed in Atari Magazine N°14, July/August 1990. Nowadays, he uses a Mac.
