Initially focused on computer games, the company changed its hands starting in 1990 when Interplay developed console games, and in 1991 became a full-time publisher of both console and computer games.

Music Development
NES
The company used David Warhol's sound engine from Realtime Associates. However, for the games Star Trek 25th Anniversary Edition (NES) and Trog! (NES), Interplay used their own custom driver programmed by Rebecca Heineman. Her driver was MIDI-based like Warhol's, and allowed users to create their own instrument patches.
SNES
Rebecca Heineman programmed early sound driver for the SNES. It used in RPM: Radical Psycho Machine Racing only. She programmed it in 65C816 assembly language, and wrote a utility to convert MIDI files. It is unknown where the instrument samples are from.
Interplay had their own sound driver, Advanced Real-time Dynamic Interpreter (A.R.D.I. for short). It appears that the composers wrote their music in MIDI and the composition would be converted to the sound driver. It was co-programmed Jim Sproul and John Phillip Britt. Because of the way they programmed this driver, SPC files for these games are unrippable and can only be ripped in the SNSF format. However, KungFuFurby has reprogrammed the sound engine to make SPC rips possible.
ClayFighter games uses Visual Concepts' SMSG sound engine by Jason Andersen and John Schappert.
RoboCop versus the Terminator and Boogerman uses Steve Aguirre's variation of Berlios sound driver by Sculptured Software.
GB
Rebecca Heineman programmed his own sound driver, which used in Track Meet (GB) and Star Trek: 25th Anniversary (GB).
GEN
On The Lost Vikings and Boogerman, audio was outsourced to Krisalis Software. Matt Furniss wrote music using Shaun Hollingworth's music tracker for Atari Mega ST and converted his music files to sound driver by same programmer.
ClayFighter uses GEMS.
32X
Brian Schmidt wrote MIDI files which were converted into his sound driver.
