Games

Music Development

Game Boy

Most of Intelligent Systems' Game Boy games made use of Hirokazu Tanaka's sound driver, where the music was written in Z80 assembly code. A few of their later games for the platform used Ryoji Yoshitomi's sound driver.

Later, Kenichi Nishimaki developed custom sound driver, which used only in Pokémon Puzzle Challenge.

NES

All of Intelligent Systems' NES games were only released in Japan, and used a sound driver by Hirokazu Tanaka, in which the music was written in 6502 assembly.

SNES

Intelligent Systems used their own version of Nintendo's Kankichi-kun sound driver, in which their variant was programmed by Kenichi Nishimaki.

N64

On Paper Mario, Kenichi Nishimaki programmed custom sound driver.

GBA

Composers of company mostly used Nintendo's MP2K sound driver, while WarioWare: Twisted! uses modified version by Takaya Fujii.

NDS

For Nintendo DS, Intelligent Systems developed his own development kit, which called IS Nitro Emulator, and Nitro Composer sound driver, which included in their kit. This developer kit was licensed to Nintendo and various developers.

Music was input through a piano roll editor on special tool for computers. The program also had the ability to import MIDI files. In another case, this sound driver also supports streamed music.

Many different versions of the driver customised by several composers and programmers exist, such as DSX Sound Engine by Shin'en Multimedia, LS_Play by Logik State, Digital Music by n-Space, etc.
