Ide Yousuke no Mahjong Kyoushitsu GB is a mahjong simulation game developed and published by Athena. The game was also released for the Playstation as Ide Yousuke no Mahjong Kyoushitsu (PS1). It features mahjong professional Yosuke Ide's endorsement. Athena was also responsible for the Pro Mahjong Kiwame series, which also features Ide Pro.

The game has three modes of play:

Mahjong Classroom (麻雀教室): In this mode, players can learn from Ide Pro how to improve your game. There is a 14-day course. First, the player learns from Ide Pro during the Lecture (講義). When the player feels confident enough, they can take on the Review Quiz (おさらいクイズ). The player must answer a certain number of questions correctly to move on. Otherwise, they must retake the test.

Free Game (フリー対局): This is a standard exhibition game of mahjong where the player can set various rules, whilst also playing against three other AI opponents of varying difficulties. The AI opponents include Tsuyoshi (ツヨシ), Chie (ちえ), Takumi (たくみ), Futoshi (ふとし), Kaoruko (かおるこ), Kenzoh (ケンゾー), Yasuyuki (やすゆき), Ume (ウメ), Yuuichi (ゆーいち), Rehko (レーコ), Mr. Yang (Mr.楊), and finally Yosuke Ide (井出洋介) himself.

トーナメント対局 (Tournament Game): Here, the player must win each division of the tournament and win the championship; the Qualifiers (予選), Main Tournament (本戦), and Semi-finals (準決勝), and then the final leg of the tournament.

Music

The game's soundtrack comes from the Playstation version and was composed by Kazuo Oikawa, known for his work on the Dezaemon and Yakouchuu series. The game has about twenty songs with varying styles. Most of the songs are a decent length, so they're not as bound to get too repetitive.

Credits

(Source)

The credits can be accessed in the options menu. The staff names are in kanji, but their English names are listed directly under.

Interestingly, the Playstation version of the game, which shares the same soundtrack, lacks credits, save for a credit to Ide Yosuke and Athena's Executive Producer Sakae Nakamura. That version of the game has a different options menu than what is found in the Game Boy Color version. it is possible the game's manual has credits, but Athena was not known for putting credits in the manuals to their games.

However, because both versions were developed by Athena and share the same music, it is believed Oikawa composed both versions.

Ripping music is a very arduous process that is beyond the scope of this site.

Audio Devices

The game uses the DMG-CPU B of the Game Boy. It uses Athena's sound driver.
