Interchange File Format is the container file format created in 1985 by Electronic Arts in cooperation with Commodore for the Amiga platform to make a standard to make a file translation easier. It can contain music, graphics, text, etc., but it's mostly known as audio format, with other regular extension 8SVX.

This is a format of non-compressed audio, used mostly in Amiga games for sound effects. Later it was superseded by FLAC and WAV, so it's mostly obsolete for now, but some popular players still support it, and even some emulators (like VICE) support recording to it.
