- This page is for the Mega Man III (NES) song. For more songs with this title, see Get a Weapon.
Get a Weapon plays in Mega Man III (NES) when the title character obtains a boss's weapon after defeating him. The song became popular enough to see several remixes in the years after the game's release.
Title
The song's name is taken from its appearance in the soundtrack album Capcom Music Generation Family Computer Soundtracks: Rockman 1~6, as well as several other official album releases.
Games
Mega Man III (NES)
In its first appearance, the song plays when receiving the weapon of the Robot Master you just defeated and continues through the password screen afterward.
It is track 54 in the NSF file.
Mega Man II (GB)
Since Mega Man II includes elements from the second and third NES games, it fittingly uses a version of the latter's "Get a Weapon" song in the same context. This arrangement's second section is noticeably different than the original and also sounds significantly harsher and higher-pitched (much like the rest of the game's soundtrack)
Kenji Yamazaki was the game's composer and likely arranged the actual melody, while Hiroto Nakamura is believed to have handled the programming.
Mega Man: The Wily Wars (GEN)
The version of Mega Man III included in The Wily Wars includes an arrangement of "Get a Weapon" that is largely faithful to the original, barring some very minor flourishes (including a brief countermelody in the first half of the tune).
Mega Man 2: The Power Fighters (ARC)
A new arrangement of the song plays when receiving a Robot Master's weapon after a stage. This version opens with a drum fill. It is also significantly abbreviated, omitting the entire second half of the original from the loop.
The exact arranger of this song is currently unknown, so all six of them have been listed here.
This rendition is reused verbatim in Rockman 3 Complete Works (PS1), a port of Mega Man III on NES. In addition to replacing the original song in-game, it also plays after finishing the Boss Time Attack mode.
Because of its appearance in Rockman 3 Complete Works, this version's name varies depending on the album: it is called "武器ゲット"/"Weapon Get" when included as part of the soundtrack for Power Fighters and "Get a Weapon / Boss Attack Results" when its inclusion refers to its appearance in Complete Works.
Marvel vs. Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes (ARC)
Mega Man's ending depicts him copying the final boss's powers into a new weapon, complete with a replica of his home series' usual "weapon get" display. This is accompanied by an arrangement that is largely based on the Power Fighters version (including its brevity and added intro).
As it is the second song played in his ending, this version is titled "Ending -Rockman 2-" on the official soundtrack album. (This wiki refers to it as "Ending -Mega Man 2-" for consistency's sake.)
