Francis Mechner is an Austrian-born American musician, and the father of game developer Jordan Mechner. He was born in Vienna, Austria in 1931. He came to the United States in 1944. When he was young, he was a classically-trained pianist, a professional Chess player, and painter. When Jordan was developing his first games Karateka and Prince of Persia, he had Francis compose the music to them. While Francis didn't work on the sequels, his music set the tone for the rest of the series.

Francis also played the role of Jaffar in Prince of Persia.
