David Whittaker is the unofficial name of the sound driver created by David Whittaker that was used only in Sega Master System and Game Gear games.
Because David Whittaker did not know FM synthesis programming, he never made a sound engine for the Genesis/Mega Drive. He wrote the music in assembly.
Release History
The first game to use Whittaker's driver is Speedball. The last game to use the driver was Faceball 2000, which was a Japanese exclusive. Yogi Bear's Goldrush, an unreleased game also used the driver.
Output
The driver outputs to the SN76496 on the Sega Master System and Sega Game Gear.
