Clik Clak (a.k.a. Gear Works in North America) is an action puzzle game where your job is to install clocks into 12 world monuments. You are given gear wheels at random sizes and must insert them onto pegs in order to connect all red wheels already fixed. At the same time, the engine is heating and two poffins hop around unscrewing pegs and rusting wheels. You have a limited supply of shots to chase away the pests, bombs to remove misplaced wheels, and oil to derust. Coins can be earned to stock up your supply, but points are deducted for unconnected wheels. After completing a level, an animated photo of the improved monument is shown.

Music

The pop music and piano cues are driving, bouncy and suit the samples, although many of them are recognizable from The Ultimate Soundtracker (AMI) and may feel cold. The songs and the music driver use only 3 voices, while the game uses the 4th for sound effects.

Some songs are also used in the Commodore 64 and DOS versions, whereas some have been replaced by others. All titles are unofficial and numbered uniquely among the three versions. The in-game song changes every level, in the same order as in the table below. Which platform's music was done first is unknown.

Over the completion photo and ending, no music plays.

Recording

To record, all sound effect samples on disk were filled with zeroes and the game played:

  1. in WinUAE 3.6.1 with NTSC off.
  2. in WinUAE 4.4.0 with NTSC on.

Audio Devices

This game uses the computer's built-in Paula chip. On NTSC, everything plays 20% faster and 1% higher.

Releases

In Clik Clak, level 6 cannot be solved due to an unreachable red wheel. This is fixed in Gear Works.
