Clever & Smart is an arcade adventure based on the Spanish comic series Mortadelo y Filemón. The comics were so popular in Germany that a German publisher had the blessing to design this first video game. It was not well thought out, as all localizations kept the German title and character names. The gameplay got a bit of a cult following due to the original and worthy gimmicks, and the completely obscure aim, which was neither known nor reached until May 31, 2003.
The C64 version plays well and fast; you can even outrun the enemy car. The graphics are nicely shaded and comical, if a bit blockier than necessary and lacking in variety. The scrolling, however, is a bit late, and the English and French texts are full of grammar mistakes.

Music
The only music plays to the title screen and the language menu on it. The in-game sound design is lackluster: Even though 24 sound effects were created, they cover expected actions and about half of them are indistinct noises. This is especially bad when knocking: Do you hear granite or a dangerous pipe? Only when you hear nothing, you know you can drill through the wall.
Recording
The song was recorded from a C64C with an 8580 R5 4091.
