A sound driver was programmed by Hitoshi Sakimoto, and the composers wrote the music in assembly. However, interestingly, Sakimoto does not credit himself with the sound driver's creation on the Basiscape website.
Game Boy Advance
The composers at CUBE uses Nintendo's MP2K sound driver.
Game Gear
On their first games, Noriyuki Iwadare developed his own sound driver, which first used by Wolf Team in Zan Gear and later by CUBE (with Iwadare's involvement) in Head Buster.
On Shining Force trilogy, Yasuhiro Taguchi programmed his own sound driver.
Nintendo DS
The composers at CUBE uses Intelligent Systems' Nitro Composer sound driver.
Genesis
CUBE used two different sound drivers for the Genesis, one by Noriyuki Iwadare, which used in After Burner II by himself, second by Yasuhiro Taguchi, and the third by Masaru Suzuki called YMOIMO, which might refer to the Japanese band Yellow Magic Orchestra.
Nintendo 64
Composers of CUBE wrote music on an N64 cartridge by Software Creations. The music was written on a piano roll.
SNES
CUBE used a variant of Nintendo's Kankichi-kun. It was reprogrammed by Masumi Takimoto. Some games uses Yasuhiro Taguchi's sound driver.
