Batman is a platform beat-em-up very loosely based on the movie. You play Batman in search of the Joker. Aside from the cut scenes and the appearance of the main character, the game has nothing to do with the Batman franchise, indicating that Sunsoft just used to franchise to sell an existing game. This was probably a good idea since most movie tie-in games are terrible, but Batman is a fun game with great controls, excellent graphics, and wonderful music. You run along the ground, kill enemies, climb various walls, avoid hazards, and end each stage with a boss battle. The game's only failing, one that seems to have plagued Sunsoft, is it becomes insanely difficult near the end. If you're able to beat the game, you'll be rewarded with a rather anti-heroic, but awesome ending.
Sunsoft later made a sequel to the game, Batman: Return of the Joker (NES).

Music
The music in Batman is very good. Like most Sunsoft games, the percussion is spectacular. The music for stage 4 really stands out. However, like most of the game's content the music has nothing to do with any past Batman franchise music. Naoki Kodaka would also go on to compose the Sega Genesis version's music, while Nobuyuki Hara would later compose the PC Engine version's music, including reusing a track he composed for this version.
