Astérix & Obélix is a platform game where one player can choose to control either Asterix or Obelix or two players can play simultaneously. The mission of the two Gauls is to acquire artifacts from all across Europe. The game, like the comics, is set around 50 BC. It includes some bonus levels like a rugby match and the Olympic Games in Greece.

The original story from the game:

The year is 50 BC. Gaul is entirely occupied by the romans. Well, not entirely. One small village of indomitable gauls still holds out against the invaders. To keep them prisoner Caesar has had an immense palisade build around the village. Astérix and Obélix decide to prove to Caesar that they can go wherever they please. They will travel the Roman empire and bring a souvenir back from every country they cross.

(Info)

Type-1 MIDI files and BNK files are extracted on the game start into the root game directory. The DOS game version uses HMP and BNK files stored in OBELIX.EPF resource file for music playback, and Windows game version uses MIDI files. UN EPF tool was used to extract HMP files from EPF resource file. Also the rip includes sound drivers extracted from HMIDRV.386 file and music drivers extracted from HMIMDRV.386 file.

The soundtrack were recorded using emulated sound hardware in DOSBox SVN Daum during gameplay.
