Legacy of the Wizard is the American title of ドラゴンスレイヤーIV ドラスレファミリー Dragon Slayer IV: Drasle Family, the fourth game in a larger series, few of which have had an American release.

It is a side-scrolling platformer adventure. It features many power-ups, items, and monsters. The game revolves around a family of dragon slayers who have just discovered that the dragon their ancestors froze in stasis is about to awake, and they must prepare to battle it to the death. The family consists of the father, mother, son, daughter, and their pet. Each has special skills necessary to collect the items to battle the dragon.

Without the instruction manual, the objective is difficult to ascertain, and the huge underground labyrinth requires a lot of trial and error to figure out.

The soundtrack is one of Yuzo Koshiro's earlier works and showcases his creativity and catchy style early in his career.

Although the MSX version of the game is very similar to the NES game, it features several different songs. The MSX version also credits Mieko Ishikawa on music who may have been responsible for the differing tracks, or who may have just been an arranger.

Additional research should be made on what part each composer had in each song. Both the NES and MSX games were being worked on at the same time, and there is reason to believe that the MSX game was the prototype, even though the NES version was released first. The MSX features a poorer map layout from the NES and MSX2, which means the designers would have had to purposely make the map worse if the development matched the release dates. Also, it's possible the additional tracks were expected to be included in the NES version, but space constraints led to them being removed.

Ishikawa may have had influence over the NES soundtrack as well, as there are several names in the MSX credits that are not in the NES credits, even for sections that are nearly identical between versions. However, until confirmation is made, only Koshiro will be credited with the NES music, as his is the only name in the game's credits.

We have contacted Koshiro about the soundtrack, but because it was so long ago and it was his only NES game, he remembered little to nothing about the soundtrack. He said he likely programmed the music and gave it to the programmer to implement into the game.
