Geoff Follin was an English former video game musician. He was the brother of Mike Follin and the famous Tim Follin. He and Tim worked at Software Creations. Geoff could play several instruments, read MIDI software and read sheet music.
Geoff had a musical upbringing from his family; his mother and grandmother played the piano, and he also sang in the church choir. He later started getting trumpet, piano, and guitar lessons. As a composer, his influences include Yes, Genesis, Rush, Vangelis, and various folk music.[1]
He attended the University of Nottingham for Environmental Biology, as he liked nature. After graduating, Geoff was working a job on a potato field. When his brother Tim asked him about working for Software Creations with him, he accepted. His favorite console that he worked on were the SNES because of the instrument samples they were able to use, and his least favorite being the Game Boy.
Though Geoff appreciated his fans' support over the years, he personally did not remember his music fondly, and left the industry because he wanted a more fulfilling career. He also felt that he worked quicker than his brother Tim, writing songs quicker, while his brother focused on the quality of the music.[1]
Sadly, in May 2024, Geoff lost his battle with pancreatic cancer. His passing was confirmed by his brother Tim on May 30, 2024 on Facebook.[2]
Audio Development
For the ZX Spectrum, Commodore 64, NES, SNES, and various other platforms, Geoff had to write the music in pure assembly.
All of these drivers were written by Stephen Ruddy, though the Software Creations SNES driver was also written by Mike Webb.
