Platform: Commodore 64
Year: 1986
Developer: Imagine Software Limited

Yie Ar Kung-Fu II is a beat 'em up converted from the MSX.

The conversion is accurate and even adds 50 named high scores and improved sound. The Chow Mein Noodle Power does not fall from the sky anymore, though, and the opponents seem tougher.

Music

Martin Galway converted all 5 MSX PSG songs and enhanced them with hovering waveforms, filters, vibratos and echos. At the same time, they are much slower; most likely, the original (being Japanese) was intended for a NTSC system and Galway (being European) heard it on a PAL system. Overall, the SID music sounds more expressive, noble, threatening - like from a beat 'em up.

Galway also arranged 2 new songs for the main menu and for a new high score. For the latter, he arranged Firecracker, with the bass line from Yellow Magic Orchestra's own cover of it recognizable.

The game allows to toggle between music and sound effects, but not both (except for the sound effects for KO and extra life).

Ocean Loader 2 is only used in the PAL tape version. The NTSC disk version has no loader tune.

The titles are unofficial and based on the respective song's appearance in the game.

Recording

The music uses SID's built-in filter, which sounds different on every SID chip. Fortunately, a template based on Martin Galway's Commodore 128D exists. All songs (except for Ocean Loader 2) were recorded from the PAL version running in VICE 2.4 with the model 6581R3 0486S.
