World Darts is a 501 darts simulator for Amiga computers, ported from a coin-op based on the Amiga 500 at NTSC.

The attract mode and full tournament bracket have gone, and every single turn takes about seven seconds to load from disk. Unlike in all other versions, gamers can choose the maximum score (up to 8) and difficulty (hand movement) themselves, even more precisely than arcade operators can.

The port was done by John Pickford, possibly alone, considering that no graphics or audio were changed. He had already programmed the coin-op at Binary Design, whose logo is still visible behind the computer opponent, but meanwhile, the Pickfords had founded competitor Zippo Games.

Music

The audio data is identical to the coin-op original, making unclear if its arranger, Jason Brooke, got involved in the computer port. In fact, he also was meanwhile co-directing a competitor of Binary's, Musicon Design.

The usage is different, though: The theme loops over the main menu, whereas the computer opponent plays silently. The formerly unused fanfare plays once you do "press fire to play", but is disturbed as screen transitions now cause a sound effect. The speech "Put your money in" is still loaded, wasting precious memory.

Finally, on PAL Amigas, the tempo is far off.

Recording

The game was modified to not play the transition sound effect. Both songs were then recorded, twice plus 10 seconds when looped, in WinUAE 4.3.0 with NTSC off, Audio filter at Emulated (A500), and Stereo separation at 100%.

The VGMPF made both titles up, not knowing official ones.

Audio Devices

This game uses the computer's built-in Paula chip. It does not turn the LED filter off.

The original coin-op runs at NTSC, but an official NTSC computer release is not known.
