Valkyrie Profile (PS1)
Valkyrie Profile (ヴァルキリープロファイル) is an RPG, developed by tri-Ace and published by Enix, that was first released in 1999. It features a large 3D world map as the main way of getting from palce to place, where you can unlock new areas and find new characters to recruit, or "Einherjar", through way of "Spiritual Concentration". All town areas and dungeons, however, are played more like platformers, and Valkyrie is capable of jumping, sliding, slashing with her sword and shooting crystals from her chest. These crystals can stick to walls and be used as platforms or freeze enemies, and can be used for solving many puzzles throughout the course of the game. All enemies are visible on the screen where Valkyrie can attack them to gain a first attack advantage in battle.
Battles are played out in turn-based style, where the player's party can all attack at the same time (each character being mapped to one of the Circle, Square, Triangle or Cross buttons) and the enemy party attacks one at a time. By performing combos on the enemy, you raise your "Hit Gauge" that, when it reaches 100%, allows your characters to preform a "Purify Weird Soul" special attack. Damage does not have a cap, so as long as you can keep attacking you can keep the damage flying.

If you've listened to any of Motoi Sakuraba's soundtracks, you probably know what to expect from Valkyrie Profile. And if that sounds like a good thing to you, oh boy is it going to be good. Generally considered as one of Sakuraba's finer works, the soundtrack covers all ends of the music spectrum, from the soft, creepiness in All is twilight to the fast-paced Confidence in the domination. Everything is there, and you'll be pressed to find something you won't listen to over and over and get stuck in your head for a long time afterwards.
Song titles are based off of the English sound test; Japanese titles and their translations can be found on each songs respective pages.
Tracks 69 through 75 are originally from Star Ocean: The Second Story. 76 is the only song not on the official soundtrack.
