Underground BGM is the music that plays in all of the underground levels of Super Mario Bros. including 1-2, 4-2, and all underworld coin sections. The song has become rather iconic in videogame culture. When time is running out, you'll hear the "Hurry Up" version of the tune which plays at double time.

The title comes from the Famicom 20th Anniversary Original Sound Tracks Vol.1 album; BGM stands for "background music".

This tune was remixed for the underworld music of Super Mario Bros. 3 (NES).
