Bobby Prince initially composed Too Hot as a 1:03 long MIDI track. The main melody repeated, but it had a changing percussion beat to make the tune more exciting. Unfortunately, the track was stripped down to 16 seconds when it was converted to IMF for id Software's game Catacomb 3-D (DOS). This made the track become rather annoying as it was repeated in the background over and over again for every single level. It is unknown if "Too Hot" was originally composed for Catacomb 3-D or Commander Keen.

The tune was also used in Commander Keen IV: Secret of the Oracle (DOS) for the background music for the levels: Cave of Descendants, Chasm of Chills, Pyramid of the Moons, Pyramid of Shadows, Pyramid of Gnosticene Ancients, Pyramid of Forbidden, Isle of Tar, and Isle of Fire, as well as the scrolling text in the game's introduction.

"Too Hot" was composed using Sequencer Plus Gold.
