The Hunt for Red October is a game loosely based on the movie of the same name. Throughout the game, the player takes control of the Red October submarine and must fight their way through underwater turrets, smaller submarines and other enemies. The final level takes place in a sidescroller where sabotage has occurred on the submarine and the player must defuse all of the bombs before the time runs out.

Music
While there are a few songs in the game, the only song you'll be hearing throughout most of the game is the music you hear when you're in the submarine underwater. This music tends to get very annoying because of this. Tania Smith wrote the music to this game and said that Beam Software wanted her to make the music sound like the movie and she did a good job at it too, as it uses the Soviet Anthem at the intro, the Star Spangled Banner at the end. But then the two annoying songs are the underwater levels and the final level. There's also a mission briefing song that sounds decent but is not related to the movie.
